The mission of the Department of Physics and Electronics is to impart quality education both at basic and advanced levels with emphasis on experimental aspect. The department has well equipped electronics laboratory, nuclear physics laboratory, and solid state physics laboratory apart from a basic physics and electronics laboratory where students not only hone their experimental skills but also learn and clear various concepts in basic physics and electronics. Further, eminent scientists and educationists from IITs and universities are invited every year to deliver lectures and some times lecture series in basic and advanced topics of physics. The faculty of the department, besides teaching, is also engaged in front line research activities in the field of condensed matter physics, nuclear theory, microwave theory and nano-materials. Some of these research activities are in collaboration with the premier research institutes of the town as well as in the country. Faculty members regularly contribute their research work in national and international conferences as well as in the peer reviewed international/national journals having high impact factor. A 14” telescope imported from Celestron, USA is an added attraction and is used regularly for observing various astronomical events. The department runs a program financed by Madhya Pradesh council for science and technology to train students from the rural schools in telescope handling and sky gauzing. In addition to teaching and research ,the department is also engaged in the design and fabrication of equipment for the UG and PG physics laboratories. We also supply the equipment on no profit no loss basis to educational institutions only.
Special Honor and achievement of the department:
Dr. Usha Singh has been invited on the national panel as a resource person to train finally selected participants for Asian Physics Olympiad and International Physics Olympiad 2015
Dr. Usha singh and Shiv Kumar Sahu won the first prize at national level in the competition organized by IAPT at its annual convention 2015 held at chandigardh for the experiment on Lissajous Figures which they designed and fabricated in the departmental workshop
Two other experiments presented by the department in same convention were selected among the best ten experiments
