Construction employs 31 million persons that accounts for 21% of the GDP & almost 40% of the plan expenditure. In Tenth five years plan the planning commission incorporated first time a chapter on construction allocating a total investment of Rs. Fourty Lakh Crore. With construction sector alone accounting for nearly 40 to 50% of plan expenditure this works out Rs. Twenty Lakh Crore every year.
